Linda is president of Make Things Happen Limited, a management consultancy providing succession planning and leadership transition assistance for nonprofit and charitable corporations accomplished through organization development consulting, facilitation and training.
Fairburn specializes in the human side of enterprises. These unique situations call for integrated approaches to change management, leadership development, strategy implementation, assessment, remedial team building, conflict resolution and interpersonal skills development. Linda’s primary clients are founders, families, partners, boards of directors and their executive directors where succession-planning issues are the primary concern.
Linda has a Master of Science in Organization Development (MSOD) from Pepperdine University in California, a Bachelor’s degree in Education and
Art Therapy from the University of Waterloo (BIS), a diploma in Biographical Counseling from Arscura School for the Healing Arts in Toronto and has completed studies in Adult Education from St. Francis Xavier University, Nova Scotia.
Fairburn’s eclectic educational background paired with 35 years of experience as an art therapist, adult educator, business entrepreneur and change agent provide the right mix of skills and sensitivity required to
successfully guide the often challenging process of succession planning.
Fairburn is a Canadian best selling author. Her publications include: Exit Right®: A Guided Tour of Succession Planning for Families-in-Business- Together (Summit Run, 2002); “The Whole System Transformation Conference” (Jossey-Bass, 2002); and Exit Right®: Integrated Succession Planning for Nonprofit Corporations; Exit Right®: Emergency Leadership Planning for Nonprofit Corporations; Exit Right®: Succession Planning for Staff Positions (Make Things Happen, 2011).
Fairburn works mainly in North America, however, there have been several international engagements including India (2000), China (2003) and Nepal (2005, 2006). In addition to her consulting practice, Linda has taught adult education at the University of Toronto, OISE from 1999 – 2011 and is now teaching at York University, Schulich School of Business in the Masters Certificate in Adult Training and Development.
